The position importance and usage of bowed tanbur in Turkish music

The purpose of this study is to put forward the history, progress, characteristics of structure and performance, position in Turkish Music performance and education of bowed tanbur instrument. The target population of the study is constituted by academicians and students, taking part in conservatories, which provide Turkish Music education, and bowed tanbur producers and performers. Furthermore, the sampling is constituted by notable bowed tanbur producers and performers together with accessible academicians and students of State Conservatory Turkish Art Music department in Afyon Kocatepe University, Ege University and Selçuk University, in academic spring semester of 2014-2015. The data used in the study have been compiled by means of structured interview and questionnaire forms. The prepared questionnaire and interview forms have been organized by interviewing with expert educators in this field in terms of validity and reliability. The data provided with questionnaire form have been analyzed by using descriptive statistics via SPSS package programme, and the data collected with the result of face to face interviewing recorded with a camera have been analyzed as qualitative. It is expected that this study will have the characteristics of a written source dealing with bowed tanbur instrument in many aspects and clear up the studies which will be carried on hereafter.
