Abstract (EN)
In this thesis, ship depictions on the manuscripts of Muralist Osman and Levni (Abdül Celil Chelebi), who created a style in Ottoman miniature art during their period, were discussed. In this study, which aimed to identify the ship depictions of Muralist Osman and Levni, the ship depictions examined were selected by taking as reference the books about miniature in printed sources published today. In this study, first of all, the stylistic features that Muralist Osman, the master painter of the miniaturist workshop that left its mark on the 16th century of the Ottoman period, and Levni, the craftsman of the 18th century, where the effects of westernization were experienced, contributed to the Ottoman miniature art were examined. In this context, ship depictions on the artworks of the craftsmen were identified in the compositions, drawn and illustrated. The place of the ship depictions in the composition on the miniature, their direction and standing position on the stage, their type and color were evaluated. Additionally, the floral and geometric decorations on the ship were drawn and compared. At the end of the study, the ship images drawn by these craftsmen from different periods were compared with the 16th century ship that exists today and is exhibited at the Naval Museum Command (Beşiktaş). This comparison showed us that the ship drawings in the miniatures were depicted realistically and strengthened the quality of the miniatures as documents. In terms of the subject of the thesis study, it is aimed to be able to respond as a source to the scientific and artistic researches that will be carried out after it, and it is aimed to publish the study as a book in order to reach larger audiences.
