Özet (EN)

The purpose of this study was to examine the views of parents from differentsocio-economic and cultural levels with reference to the variables, education, reading,income level and job-type, on the new elementary school mathematics teachingprogram. There were a total of 317 parents involved in this study that took place in thecity center of Afyonkarahisar during 2006-2007. The researcher developed a liker-typequestionnaire consisting of 20 statements regarding the parents? views about the newelementary school mathematics curriculum, students? work and attitudes towards thenew program. After the collection of the quantitative data, the researcher useddescriptive statistics and one-way ANOVA with α=0.05 in the analysis of the data.This current study demonstrated that there were statistically significantdifferences found in terms of the variable, education of parents, among the participantsin the care of students? work and the textbooks used in the new program. The study alsoindicated that there were statistically significant differences detected in terms of the job-type, among the participants in the parents? views regarding the textbooks used in thenew program. Likewise, there was a statistically significant difference in reference tomonthly-income levels among the participants in the care of students? work. There werealso statistically significant differences detected in regard to reading levels among theparticipants in the care of students? work and the textbooks used in the new program.Furthermore, none of the parents involved in the study has adequate knowledge aboutthe constructs of the new elementary school mathematics teaching program.
