Abstract (EN)

The issue of whether the audience is active or passive is an issue that has been discussed for many years. The new media and the new communication technologies brought together have accelerated the audience's activation process. At the same time, the recording and tracking possibilities brought by the digital media have made it easier to detect this situation. Today, it is possible to talk about two main groups of viewers, digital immigrants coming from the habits of the old media, and digital natives who existed where the new media is located. In this context, our thesis started by defining the concept of mass communication and traditional mass media and continued their development process by explaining the effect of the emergence of new media. Then, the concept of new media was emphasized and new media technology, web and internet development stages were transferred in perspective. In the meantime, theoretical debates on new media and views on computer communication and ethics were included. Social media and digital platforms are discussed under the heading of new communication environments. In the next section, audience research, active audience theories and methods used in audience research are discussed. The effect of new media and active viewers on television content was examined through television genres and evaluated through current examples. Likewise, the effects of new media and active audiences on the content of cinema and documentaries are examined through current examples. Within the scope of this thesis, the effects of the active audience on the content of television and cinema were studied within the scope of new media.
