The synthesis and applications of nanomaterials for hydrogen production as a new generation clean energy sources

Today, the energy need of the world is gradually increasing. The new generation of clean energy sources is needed due to the increased energy needs and the harmful effects of the toxic substances produced by the combustion of fossil fuels. The trend towards hydrogen energy is increased because of such as the lack of any toxic waste as a new generation of clean energy and its high energy content. Since hydrogen is not free in nature and there is a problem with storage, it is thought that withdrawing hydrogen from solid form structures will provide both hydrogen production and minimizing the difficulty and cost of hydrogen storage. In this study with this opinion, the effects of platinum-rhodium supported on graphene oxide (PtRh@GO) nanoparticles on dimethylamine borane (DMAB) dehydrogenation were investigated in hydrogen production. For this purpose, the nanocatalyst was synthesized firstly. Later, prepared nanoparticles were characterized by Raman spectroscopy, X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), X-Ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS), Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) and High Resolution -Transmission Electron Microscopy (HR-TEM). As a result of the investigations, it was observed that the materials obtained were nano-sized and homogeneously distributed on the surface. Additionally, when the kinetic parameters of the catalyst used in the nanoscale for DMAB dehydrogenation reaction is examined, the activation energy was obtained as 16.653 ± 1 kJ.mol-1 and the turnover frequency was 274.6 h-1. This turnover frequency value is one of the best TOF values in the literature.
