Abstract (EN)

The uprisings of people in Arab countries, within the year of 2011, will apparently become significant landmarks in those nations' histories. Secession from Ottoman Empire in the First World War and becoming independent states with the Second World War have been important milestones for the Arab peoples. Once again Arab countries are going through a historic experience as people voice their demands for democracy and freedom as well as the overthrow of dictatorship with a wave of change in the last few years. Especially within an ever-globalising world following the Cold War, the wider acceptance of liberal values across the nations of the globe along with the ever-spreading use of mass media tools, the concept of mass social events have gained a whole new dimension. The political awareness of the Arab peoples, especially their younger generations, have increased immensely through vehicles of communication such as programs of education abroad, in the United States and Europe; trade relations; use of social media and like. The increasing levels of political awareness lead Arab peoples to display widespread reactionary political responses against their dictators and opressive regimes. However, due to the lack of healthy lines of communication between the individual state authorities and their subjects, or their absence thereof, such rightful political, social and economic demands have caused violent street protests, and downright civil wars. Recent political events in Egypt are especially important at the global level, given the role of Political Islam in that country and the country's significance in the Middle East.
