The role of social media in the Egyptian people's uprising in the context of new social movements

In the modern world of technology, borders have disappeared. In an age where everyone can easily reach information and produce information. The place of internet and social media has been debated with each passing day. The popular uprisings that erupted in Tunisia at the end of 2010 and brought the whole world into effect in a short time have caused changes in more than one country. The majority of the studies conducted on these revolts up to the present day have analyzed these changes with social media index. In general, the Arab Popular Revolts, in particular the vast majority of the work done on the Egyptian revolts, is about the revolution in Egypt. They say that the main element that makes this revolution is social media. As a matter of fact, the impact of social media and internet in the Middle East and North Africa in recent history is undeniable. However, the role played by social media in the Arab People's Revolts is not more than just an ordinary tool we use to meet our daily needs. Because each period has its own popular communication tools. This means of communication is more than just a tool to eat in the kitchen like a fork or spoon. Once upon a time, just as the main means of communication were newspapers and radio, but today the basic means of communication are social networks. These tools have never been the goal, as it has changed from one event to another throughout history. This reality was more apparent in the Egyptian People's Revolts, as was the case in the Arab Popular Revolts. When it comes to the emergence, progress and end of the events in Egypt, it is seen that this is not a social media movement but rather a rebellion influenced by social movements and organized structures. Therefore, in this study, the initiator, continuator and finisher of the popular uprisings in Egypt were examined. These elements are; The Tunisian People's Revolts, Al-Jazeera Television, the Religious Communities which are the yeasts of the society, and the Friday Prayers, the world's largest public gathering areas.
