Comparison of serum hepsidin level with c reactive protein and interleukin 6 levels in newborn sepsis

Abstract (EN)

In our study, it was aimed to determine the serum level of whole blood, prematurity, C reactive protein and Interleukin 6 in healthy premature and term newborns with sepsis-diagnosed premature and term newborns. This study was carried out in the newborns born between February 2017 and September 2017 at the Ministry of Health DPU Evliya Çelebi Training and Research Hospital. The study included 11 newborns with sepsis, 19 premature newborns with sepsis, 11 healthy term newborns and 19 healthy premature newborns. Newborns born before the 37th gestational week are premature, 38-42. the newborns born through the gestational weeks constituted the term newborn group. The study groups did not include congenital anomalies, perinatal asphyxia, infratrable hemorrhagic infants and blood transfusions. Serum CRP, IL-6, heptidine, white blood cell count, Htc, hemoglobin, thrombocyte counts, gestational age, gestational age and gestational age MCV values and blood culture results of term newborn group and premature newborn group were also evaluated. In the analysis of the obtained data, SPSS 23 program was used. To determine the statistical significance level, 95% confidence interval and p <0.05 were considered significant. A total of 60 newborns were taken to study. The mean value of hepcidin was found to be 926.34 ± 303.00 ng/mL in the newborn group with term sepsis and it was found to be 401,23 ± 92,07 ng/mL in the term healthy newborn group. The mean value of hepcidin was found to be 1223,22 ± 370,39 ng/mL in the newborn group with premature sepsis and it was found to be 415,12 ± 107,99 ng/mL in the premature healthy newborn group. In addition, there were statistically significant correlations between hematocrit levels, hemoglobin, Hct, platelets, IL-6 and CRP levels in all newborns with term sepsis (p <0,05). There were statistically significant correlations between hepcidin level and birth weight, white blood cell count, Hct, platelets, IL-6 and CRP in the neonate group with prematurity sepsis (p <0.05).There was a positive correlation between serum levels of hepcidin which is known that its secretion is IL-6 mediated during inflamation and CRP which we frequently use in IL-6 and sepsis diagnosis.
