Abstract (EN)
Aim: In our study, we aimed to reveal the 5-year mortality rate and the factors affecting it in premature babies born under 32 weeks of gestation in our unit. Methods: For this study, the files of 165 babies under 32 weeks of gestation who were admitted to our Süleyman Demirel University Faculty of Medicine Neonatal Intensive Care Unit between May 2017 and April 2022 were retrospectively examined. Maternal characteristics, patients' demographic data, birth and postpartum clinical characteristics were recorded. Result: Of the 165 patients included in the study, 76 were girls and 89 were boys. Their birth weight was between 320-1670 g. Mortality rate was determined as 24.8%. Delivery type, gestational patient, presence of multiple pregnancy, number of pregnancies, need for resuscitation at birth, APGAR score, CRIB score, birth weight, pH value in blood gas taken in the delivery room or within the first hour, presence of hemodynamically significant PDA, inotrope requirement in the first 72 hours of life A significant relationship was found between hospitalization duration, total parenteral nutrition duration and mortality (p<0.05). Conclusion: In this study, in order to reduce the mortality rate in premature babies, delaying birth as much as possible with regular follow-up during pregnancy, applying resuscitation in accordance with the current Neonatal Resuscitation Program in the delivery room, providing respiratory, circulatory and nutritional support without delay during follow-up in the clinic, in cooperation with the family and towards the family. We concluded that patient follow-up and management should be done meticulously by providing information.
