Abstract (EN)

The heterogeneous distribution of fossil energy resources in the world necessitates countries that are insufficient in terms of these resources to seek alternative energy sources. Even the countries that are advantageous in terms of fossil resources are in search of renewable energy sources in the near future with the concern that resources such as oil and gas will be exhausted. In fact, this quest has an important role in reshaping the countries' development rankings in the world. The only way to make a difference to competitors in the ranking is to prepare and implement renewable energy policies quickly and accurately. Failure to succeed in this competition will inevitably end energy imports. As import of energy increases, foreign dependency increases. 70% Dependence on foreign energy level of Turkey require a situation assessment of Turkey in every situation in the energy field. The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between renewable energy production and energy imports. In this study, energy policies which have a significant importance in terms of preparing legal basis for renewable energy production are included. Beside this, it is analyzed how growth data of Turkey affected import of energy. Thus, the relationship between foreign dependence on energy and growth is discussed. In this study, the amount of renewable energy production between 1990-2015 and affect of GDP on energy imports analyzed with the help of time series. In defined time interval, it is seen that there is meaningful and negative correlation between the amount of renewable energy production and energy imports also there is meaningful and positive correlation between GDP and energy import. Finally, based on the findings, policy recommendations for reducing dependence were presented. Key words: Energy import, Energy policy, Renewable energy
