Abstract (EN)

The transportation sector interacts with all other sectors. Therefore, the acceleration, deceleration or inhibition of the developments in the sectors depends on the transportation sector. Maritime transport is one of the important branches of the transport sector. Due to the size and cheapness of the carrying capacity, when applied correctly, it is the transportation with the highest rate in the world trade volume. Ports that create new trade gates and markets are the gateways of countries to the world and contribute to the regional and national economy. In this study, municipalities, their causes and duties, port management in local governments, port types and services, port management, ports in Turkey and their situations, port locaiton selection, port planning, effects on the region and the ways followed while the port was built were examined and Erdek Feri Pier, operated by Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality, The current status of the ports named Paşalimanı(Balıklı) Pier, Avşa Pier, Ekinlik Pier, Marmara Pier, Çınarlı Pier and Saraylar Port were evaluated with SWOT-PEST analysis.
