Abstract (EN)
Canine Parvovirus type-2 (CPV-2) causes a highly contagious and fatal infection with severe gastrointestinal system symptoms commonly found in our country and worldwide, especially in young dogs. This thesis aims to investigate the presence of CPV-2 and to make its molecular characterization in the Black Sea region for the first time; for this purpose, dogs brought to the animal hospital of the Ondokuz Mayıs University Veterinary Faculty in Samsun city with complaints of vomiting and diarrhea were sampled. Consequently, blood, stool, rectal swap samples, and tissue samples were taken from 45 dogs suspected of CPV-2 and analyzed by Real-Time PCR test; the presence of viral nucleic acid was also detected in a total of 24 samples as a result of the test. Virus isolation for the causative agent was attempted on the Vero cell lines, and eight positive samples were isolated. In addition, whole genome sequence analyses of six isolates were performed with the New Generation Sequencing (NGS) method. It was determined that our isolates were classified with the CPV-2a genotype and placed among the previously detected CPV-2 isolates circulated locally and globally.
