Abstract (EN)
The world economy has been evolving with the evolution of science, moving from agriculture to industrialization and then to globalization While it is easier to accept an economic globalization, the same can not be said on the acceptance of hosting societies to the incoming immigrants. A division of society into us and them, and the fear of losing social control to the other might lead to the natives'rejection of sharing opportunities and resources with immigrants. Therefore, in this thesis we are having an overall look at the history of immigration in Germany, to understand the German experience with immigration and its strategies, then we are analysing how the increasing share of foreign born through the years affect the natives support or rejection to redistribution. We are testing our hypothesis using different control variables, and interactions between our main independent variable (share of foreign born) and chosen variables. We are pursuing our study using data both from the ESS and OECD of the years from 2002 and 2018. Our results have revealed that as the share of foreign-born increases in Germany the natives support for redistribution decreases, and these results prevailed in all the regression models, even those models that included different interactions between our main independent variable, share of immigrants, and other variables such as the perception of the natives on the economic effect of immigration, and the support of natives to same/different race migration.
