Evaulations the effect of green areas on urban quality of life with GIS: The case of Cukurova

Quality of life is a term which defines the welfare and satisfaction levels of individuals from their environment and other living conditions. Green areas are the one of the most important factors that directly affect the quality of life. The adequacy and accessibility of green areas affect the efficiency and productivity of people, as well as positively affect bioclimatic comfort areas by reducing the effects of the formation of urban heat islands. This study is that the determining the adequacy and accessibility of active green areas in Adana city Çukurova District, and its effect on green space planning and urban life quality was determined. At the same time, bioclimatic comfort areas and the effect of green areas on comfort were determined by using the climate parameters of the study area. During these study, Heat Index was used for bioclimatic comfort maps and these index analyzes were used by Arcgis 10.8, Arcgis Pro and Envi-Met software. As a result of the study, while uncomfortable areas were observed between in May and September in the summer months throughout the Çukurova district, cold and cool areas were detected in the winter months. Green areas were examined at the neighborhood level and the amount of green space per capita is generally less than 10 m². In order to increase the quality of life in terms of both social and comfort, the amount of active and green areas in the work area should be increased.
