Green star criteria and application level: 4 and 5 star accommodation enterprises in Ankara

The thesis study was carried out in order to reveal the environmentally sensitive practices carried out in 4 and 5 star accommodation establishments operating in Çankaya district. In this study, it has been examined whether the environmental sensitivity levels of accommodation establishments differs according to factors such as the number of stars, the number of rooms, their ownership status and the period of operation. In obtaining data on the environmental sensitivity levels of accommodation establishments, a survey form, which was created by referencing the updated Green Star criteria was used. As a result of the survey study, a total of 49 questionnaire forms obtained from 4 star (35) and 5 star (14) accommodation establishments with tourism business certificates, located in Çankaya district of Ankara were evaluated. The data obtained were analyzed according to the appropriate statistical methods and as a result, it was revealed that 4 star (35) and 5 star (14) accommodation establishments operating in Çankaya district applied all 30 criteria determined for determining the environmental sensitivity levels at the "Medium" level (X:3,05, ss:1,12). It has been determined that there is a statistically significant difference in 22 of the 30 items regarding the level of implementation of the Green Star criteria by the accommodation establishments, according to the number of stars the establishments have (p<0.05). On the other hand, it has been evaluated that there is no statistically significant difference between the levels of environmental sensitivity according to the ownership status, the number of rooms and the period of operation of accommodation establishments.
