Body in yesilcam and re-defining of the body: Incorporeal performance

From the primitive ages until today, the body; which has been subject to all kinds of rituals, social matters, science and art; has been continuously re-defined. This dynamic structure also prevails for the cinematographic body: With its physical presence, the body being in a continuous motion in time, beyond a given reality, as Judith Butler emphasized, is a ?mode of becoming?. Being in the mood of a continuous performance, the body is also the basic factor in the process of the formation of identity. In a situation where the physical reality of the body is not present, mentioning about the performance does not seem possible.The ?Incorporeal Performance? concept which is introduced in this study gains importance at exactly this point. For the Incorporeal Performance there is no necessity for physical presence of body? the set up of a body idea is adequate. The cinema, by its basic elements can be accepted directly as an area of the Incorporeal Performance. The determination of scales like long shot, close up that based on the human body, is the primary support of this proposition. The human body in the cinema, independent of its physical visibility, exists as an ?idea? from the very beginning. The Incorporeal Performance; beyond the perception of absence regarding the body is expressed re-defining of the body.Yesilcam (Turkish Hollywood, in all aspects), from its approach of cinematographic body construction, has been created an appropriate ground for discussion of the concept of Incorporeal Performance. When the people living in Turkey are considered, the place of Yesilcam in collective memory is clear. The concept of the ?Incorporeal Performance? is closely connected with the memory. When the characteristics of cinematographic device are taken into consideration; the cinema can be taken directly as a field of the Incorporeal Performance.
