An examination of Yeşim Saygın Armutak's children's novels in terms of root and sub values

Education and training institutions, which stand out with their aims such as providing information and providing a profession, also have goals such as positive behavior and make the work valuable. Bringing national and universal values to children and adopting these values by children are of great importance for the future of societies. These values are the set of common feelings, thoughts, behaviors, and rules accepted by the society, which are necessary for the generation of upbringing to gain positive behaviors and for the society to have a livable structure. Values education is given importance in the 2019 Turkish Course Curriculum. The purpose of this research is to examine Yeşim Saygın Armutak's children's novels in terms of ten core values "love, justice, responsibility, patience, friendship, honesty, respect, benevolence, self-control, patriotism" and sub-values in the 2019 Turkish Course Curriculum. In this research study, which uses document analysis technique from qualitative research methods, where the values found in Yeşim Saygın Armutak's children's novels were classified and determined how often these values were used. This study consists of five chapters. In the first part, it is stated what the problem is. In addition, the purpose and importance of the research were mentioned, and the assumptions and limitations were listed. Moreover, definitions were made about the general concepts of the study and previous studies in the field of values education were analyzed. In the second part, the theoretical framework is emphasized and the concepts that make up the infrastructure of the research are explained. In the third part, the research model, the universe, and sample of the study are explained. Furthermore, it was stated which methods were used during the collection and evaluation of data. In the fourth chapter, separate headings were created for root and sub-values, and the number of related value messages and examples of messages were given under these headings. Then, the values found in the study that are the subject of the study and the distribution of these values are shown through the figure. In the fifth chapter, the result of the study is mentioned and various suggestions about values education are listed. In the research, it was determined that Yeşim Saygın Armutak's children's novels contain elements rich in root and sub-values. It has been concluded that the mentioned works can be used as a useful educational material in the transfer of values in terms of the rich elements they contain.
