The effect of acupressure applied to the yintang point on labor duration, pain, anxiety, and childbirth satisfaction: A randomized controlled trial

The Effect of Acupressure Applied to the Yintang Point on Labor Duration, Pain, Anxiety, and Childbirth Satisfaction: A Randomized Controlled Trial Aim: The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of acupressure applied to the yintang point on labor duration, pain and anxiety during labor, and satisfaction with labor in primiparous women. Material and Method: The study was conducted as a randomized controlled experimental trial between June 2024 and April 2025. 104 primiparous women (experimental group n=52, control group n=52) who presented to the delivery room were included in the study. The experimental group received acupressure at the Yintang point five times for approximately 28–30 minutes: during the active phase, transition phase, second stage, third stage, and 60 minutes postpartum. No intervention other than routine care was applied to the control group. Results: Acupressure applied to the Yintang point was found to have significant effects on labor duration, pain level, anxiety, and labor satisfaction. The active phase, transition phase, third stage, and total labor duration were shorter in the experimental group compared to the control group (p<0.05). Pain levels were lower in the transition and second stage of labor, and at 60 minutes postpartum, in the experimental group compared to the control group (p<0.05). Anxiety levels were also lower in the experimental group, and labor satisfaction was higher than in the control group (p<0.05). Conclusion: Acupressure applied to the Yintang point was found to be effective in shortening labor duration, reducing pain, alleviating anxiety, and increasing birth satisfaction. This intervention was recommended as a safe and applicable supportive approach within the context of holistic care during labor.
