Nurses experience and solution suggestions for monitoring in the intensive care unit

This study was conducted in Tokat province to determine the problems experienced by intensive care nurses in patient monitoring and their solution suggestions. The study was based on qualitative research method. The sample of the study consisted of intensive care nurses selected by criterion sampling method that met the inclusion criteria. In the interviews conducted with individual in-depth interview technique, "Nurse Introduction Form" was applied to collect data and the question "Have you experienced any problems with monitor cables and monitoring during the process of monitoring patients?" was asked. The nurses who answered "yes" to this question were individually interviewed in-depth with the "Semi-structured Interview Form". As a result of the interviews, data saturation was reached with 10 intensive care nurses. Consolidated criteria for reporting qualitative research (COREQ) were used throughout the study. In the analysis of qualitative data, inductive qualitative content analysis was used. Four main themes were obtained as a result of the analysis. The themes obtained are respectively; "The meaning that nurses attribute to monitoring", "Difficulties experienced due to monitoring and cables in treatment and care giving", "Psychosocial difficulties experienced by patients from the nurse's perspective" and "Opinions and solution suggestions for monitoring cables from the nurses' perspective".
