Validity and reliability of the nursing image scale among the nurse manegers

Objective: The objective of this study is to perform the validity and reliability of Tzeng's nursing image scale among the nurse managers. Method: The research has been performed on 194 nurse managers who are employed in nine hospitals offering service in Antalya province. All the nurse managerswhose institutional consents are granted, who are willing to attend to the study and who are not on leave with or without report have been taken under the scope of the sampling. Thereforeno specific sampling method is used. As a data gathering tool, personal information form and nursing image scale are used. Personal information form consists of 22 questions and nursing image scale consists of 17 questions. Research data are analysed by the assistance of the "SPSS 20.0" statistics package program. In analysis of data; number, percentage, arithmetic average, Kendall's W analysis, correlation analysis, factor analysis, Cronbach alpha coefficient, and t test analysis in dependent groups are used. Results: In adaptation of the scale to Turkish language; translation and back translation method is used. Level of coherence of the expert views evaluated by Kendall's W and didn't find statistically significant difference between expert opinion(Kendall's W= ,200, Sd=18, p=,456). Upon factor analysis, it is detected that the scale gathers under 4 factors, KMO value is ,849 and Barlett's χ2 value is 1327,248 (p=,000). It is detected that Cronbach alpha reliability coefficient of the whole sample is ,742and Angel of Mercy Dimension for sub aspects of the scale is ,669, Romantic Aspect is ,841, CareeristAspect is ,893 and ObedientAspect is ,761. It is observed that the item – total point correlation coefficients vary between ,36-,95 and are significant. It is detected that test – retest t value is -1,319 and p=,194, and the scale is constant against time. Conclusion: It is detected that the nursing image scale has sufficient validity and reliability to be used for Turkish executive nurses.
