The application of wayfinding graphics (Street signs) on ceramic surfaces

Abstract (EN)

The purpose of this study is to examine the street signs which are the sort of wayfinding graphics. Based on this main purpose, street signs samples which are made of different materials located in all over the world but especially some countries located in Europe and in the world and some cities in Turkey were investigated. In this regard, as a recommendation, it has been aimed that ceramic street signs should be implemented in place of the ones made of metal in Kütahya. In addition, it has been intended to reveal the results of the implementation when creating new design applications.In this study, qualitative methods, observations and general screening models and literature of this field were used. This research consists of three parts. In the first part, it includes "Description of the Inner and Outer Space, the Purposes and Domestic and Foreign Case". In the second one, "Definition and History of Writing and Typeface Used in the Street Signs" can be found. In the third part, there are "Selection Reason of Clay Bodies Used in the Street Signs, Production Phase of Street Signs and Application Examples of Street Signs". Moreover, street signs made of ceramic in Spain, Ireland, Netherland, and France were also examined on the spot and it has been thought that new ideas can be revealed by the inspiration of these street signs seen in those countries. In this research, it has been aimed to be practiced the tile art for the implementation of street signs. Keywords: Tile Plate, Ceramic Signs, Street Signs, Wayfinding Graphics.
