Abstract (EN)

The issue of death always has been a subject of interest since the beginning of human history. In the research that constitutes our thesis topic, data were collected and evaluated on the burial traditions from four different Assyrian cities based on the Upper Tigris Basin in the north of Mesopotamia. The cities that are evaluated located in district of Diyarbakır. Ziyaret Tepe, Kavuşan Höyük, Üçtepe and Hakemi Use. It is known that some of these settlements examined during the thesis were state centre of Neo-Assyrian period. For this reason, the presence of numerous chamber tombs and royal tombs is attributed to this situation. B.C. Assyrians, who came to the 1st Thousand Upper Tigris Basin and continued to exist here, continued their artistic and vital activities by including local cultures in the region. From the Neolithic to the present, it has a long history; In the Assyrian cities where inhumation and cremation burials were applied, the tomb typology differed and this issue was chosen by us and local and general characteristics were tried to be revealed in all aspects. The chamber tombs, simple earth tombs, chest tombs and royal tombs seen in the Neo-Assyrian cities are the types of tombs that will be discussed in this thesis. According the data we have used, it has been understood how valuable the death for human being since ancient times. The study is not only to evaluate death from a physical point of view, but also to evaluate the rituals performed after death from an archaeological point of view.
