Co-pyrolysis of the high density polyethylene (HDPE) with pumpkin wastes (Cucurbita pepo L.) and characterization of co-pyrolysis products

The production of gas, liquid (pyrolysis oil) and solid products (char) with pyrolysis technology from waste samples has been known for a long time. The proportion of products that can be produced by this method depends on the pyrolysis technique and it is variables. In order to obtain fuel additives from industrial and biological wastes in this project, high-density polyethylene (HDPE) plastic waste sample and pumpkin (cucurbita pepo L.) wastes together with co-pyrolysis were carried out in the fixed bed reactor using nitrogen gas as the entraining gas. In order to determine optimum pyrolysis conditions, the effect of temperature and heating rate on the yield of liquid products (pyrolysis oil) was investigated. Performed under optimum conditions; the pyrolytic oil obtained by pyrolysis of high density polyethylene and the pyrolytic oil composition obtained by the co-pyrolysis of the high-density polyethylene and the squash were determined by Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectroscopy (GC-MS). In addition, Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR) spectrum of pyrolytic oil was obtained and calorific value was determined by using calorimetry bomb. In order to determine the thermal decomposition behavior of the raw materials, thermogravimetric analysis of the squash was made. According to the results of GC-MS analysis; ıt has been determined that the pyrolytic oil obtained by copirolysis of high density polyethylene and pumpkin wastes can be used as a liquid fuel. In addition, it was found that the carbon structures in the pyrolytic oil structure were between 8 and 60.
