Higher education students' ethical codes of conduct

Higher education institutions impose certain rights and responsibilities on all their stakeholders in line with the institutional policies that reflect their goals and the existing laws of the country. University students also have these rights and responsibilities as a member of higher education institutions. Higher education students' ethical codes of conduct are shared with students in many higher education institutions abroad. These ethical codes of conduct have the characteristics of an agreement between the higher education institutions and the students, clearly explaining the rights that students have and the behaviors expected from them. In order to create a harmonious community culture on campuses, a framework of student rights and responsibilities needs to be established for higher education students studying in Turkey. This study aimed to reveal the codes of conduct that define the ethical rights and responsibilities of higher education students. The problem statement of the study was determined as "What are the behavioral codes that define the ethical rights and responsibilities of higher education students?" In the study, which was conducted by the content analysis method, data were collected by the document analysis method and the student code of conduct obtained from the 28 best universities in the world were analysed using thematic coding, following an inductive method. As a result of the study, it has been determined that the higher education students' ethical codes of conduct are defined within the scope of academic and non-academic rights and responsibilities. This result can be a guide in creating the codes of conduct that define the ethical rights and responsibilities of students in order to ensure an ethical culture in universities in Turkey.
