Opinions about the instructional adaptations regarding the visually impaired students who continue higher education

Özet (EN)

The general purpose of this study is to evaluate the instructional accommodations which are aimed at the academical processes of visually impaired university students; in terms of planning of teaching, practice, evaluation and monitoring the individual success. In this research which was built with qualitative research method, it has been conducted a semi-structured interviews with nine visually impaired university students and 10 academicians who teaches the visually impaired students. Acquired data have been analysed via content analysis method. In consequence of content analysis, eight main themes have come out and research findings have been presented under these themes. Findings based on personal experiences of visually impaired university students and academicians who gave lessons to visually impaired students at least for 1 term, legal regulations within the frame of disability concept in higher education, special needs, principal of academical, social and cultural participation and the problems encountered in this field, solution offers, disabled students units, staff sufficiency, have been examined in terms of process, communication and collaboration.According to the research results, although some arrangements have been made for visually impaired students in university, certain deficiencies and inconsistencies have attracted the attention. Besides, the findings have put emphasis on the importance and needs for assistive technologies, positive attitude and perception of disability, also, works which will be done in the field of disability.
