The research of the effect of the supplement of vitamin e and selenium to laying hen rations on antioxidant enzymes in the blood and EGG samples

Aim: To research the effects of the supplement of Vitamin E (Vit-E) and organic selenium (OS) to laying hen rations separately and in a combined (Vit-E+OS) manner on glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px), catalase (CAT) superoxide dismutase (SOD) enzymes activities and malondialdehyde (MDA) levels in the serum, albumen and yolk of the egg. Material and Method: 24 weeks old 96 white Lohman laying hens were divided into 4 equal groups each of which was composed of six subgroups. The groups were respectively fed with the rations that consisted of basal forage (Control), basal forage + 250 mg / kg Vit-E (Trial-I), basal forage + 0,9 mg/ kg OS (Trial-II) and basal forage+ 250 mg / kg Vit-E +0,9 mg/ kg OS (Trial-III) for 12 weeks. Forage and water were provided as ad libitum. At the end of the experiment, in the samples of the blood and egg; the analyses of the GSH-Px, CAT, SOD enzymes activities and MDA levels were made at Atatürk University Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Department of Biochemistry. Results: Enzymes activities in serum and egg samples compared to treatment groups control group serum, albumen and yolk of the egg significantly increased (p<0.05) and MDA level was significantly decreased (p <0.05) were determined.
