SHAMALLAKH, R.N. The Role of CYP24A1 Gene Polymorphisms in Ovarian Cancer. Yeditepe University Health Sciences Institute, Department of Molecular Medicine. Master of Science Thesis. Istanbul, 2022. Ovarian cancer (OC) is considered as an autoimmune disease as a result of environmental and hereditary changes. Like any other disorder it has many either genetic or environmental factors that increase or reduce the risk of the tumor susceptibility such as Hypovitaminosis D. Our study aimed to indicate the association of rs2248137 SNP in CYP24A1 gene and ovarian cancer risk. Bone metabolism and calcim are controlled by vitamin D, a prohormone that is fat-soluble. About 3% of the genome of human is regulated by the endocrine system of vitamin D. Previous studies identified that vitamin D to have considerable anti-cancer action and preventative properties. Vitamin D levels are influenced by sun exposure, diet, and medications. Low levels of the vitamin may raise the chance of developing ovarian cancer, according to some research. Genotyping of CYP24A1 SNPs was investigated both in ovarian cancer patients and in healthy controls. Molecular analysis was performed by real-time PCR. The distribution of genotypic and allelic frequencies was not significantly different between patients and controls regarding rs2248137 SNP of CYP24A1 gene. Our research results indicate that rs2248137 CYP24A1 doesn't show any effects in ovarian cancer.
