Abstract (EN)

This thesis explores the development of a small-scale soft magnetic device. It introduces a novel reprogrammable magnet called soft and reprogrammable permanent magnet (srPM). The device is capable of remote magnetization with applied external magnetic fields. The working principle is similar to an electro-permanent magnet. A literature review including reprogramming strategies and electro-permanent magnets is presented. The objectives of this research are to design, fabricate and evaluate srPMs capable of remote magnetization. The srPM allows for magnetization via external magnetic pulses which is novel in the field of magnetic soft robots. Magnetic and mechanical experiments are implemented for characterization such as Vibrating Sample Magnetometer, Scanning Electron Microscope analysis and tensile test. The experiment setups are designed and fabricated including electromagnets and a pulse magnetizer. The proposed srPM has potential applications in biomedical applications. Possible implication areas could be drug delivery, surgical procedures, diagnostics.
