Abstract (EN)

The world population is increasing rapidly. Effects of the increasing population are expected to be seen in air passenger transport as in all other sectors. The increase in the number of global passengers is one of the these effects. On the other hand, air passenger transport is increasingly preferred by passengers among modes of transportation because it offers fast, safe and comfortable services. The increasing demand for air passenger transport brings along problems that require sustainable solutions. Nowdays airports are not only hubs used by passengers for their flight, they also have become center of attention for civilians and airports stakeholders have increased. To meet these demands in the best possible way; without disrupting air traffic, maintaining airport terminal efficiency and reducing airlines' passenger processing times, airports are seeking solutions by adopting digitalization, transforming into smart airports and integrating advanced technologies. These attempts seek to address congestion caused by increasing passenger demand, alongside the challenges mentioned above. This study aims to meet growing passenger demand effectivly which has become a global and national problem, to support airports serve efficiently and sustainably and to ensure that other stakeholders of the airports also benefit from it by integrating facial recognition systems to passenger processes at airports. While looking for solutions to the challanges, the world's leading airports using face recognition systems were evaluated and effects of the using technology on passengers, passengers flow rate and other airport stakeholders are discussed in the light of the literature.
