Abstract (EN)
The aim of this study is to examine the effect of sports commitment levels on the quality of life of adults who are engaged in swimming. The research focuses on identifying the relationship between swimmers' commitment to sport and the physical, psychological, and social dimensions of their quality of life. A quantitative research design based on the descriptive survey model was used. The sample of the study consisted of adult individuals who regularly participated in swimming activities at the facilities of the Ministry of Youth and Sports in Bayburt in 2025. The "Sports Commitment Scale" and the "World Health Organization Quality of Life Scale (Short Form)" were utilized as data collection tools. The findings revealed that sports commitment levels showed significant relationships with various sub-dimensions of quality of life. As adults' commitment to swimming increased, improvements were observed in the general health, physical health, and mental health sub-dimensions of quality of life. While certain demographic variables such as gender, marital status, and education level demonstrated some differences, swimming experience (years of participation) and weekly swimming frequency were found to have a significant effect on both sports commitment and quality of life. Additionally, the purpose of participation in swimming (health, performance improvement, recreation, etc.) created meaningful differences in some sub-dimensions of quality of life. In conclusion, the study demonstrated that regular participation in swimming positively influences adults' quality of life through increased levels of sports commitment. These results highlight the contribution of swimming to physical and psychological well-being and indicate that it is an effective means of improving quality of life among adults. Based on the findings, it is recommended to enhance programs aimed at increasing adults' motivation to participate in sports and to expand the accessibility of swimming activities.
