The evaluation of joint position sense (proprioception) in swimmers

Abstract (EN)
The purpose of this study is to determine of the proprioception composed on knee joint of swimmers and sedantaries applying the method of digitalgonyometer. In this study it is aimed that in the positions of weight bearing (WB), partial weight bearing (PWB) and non weight bearing (NWB) proprioception is examined among the participants of the study -the swimmers and sedantaries.Totaly 40 men and women 10 women swimmers (Average age: 20.0±3.1 year), 10 men swimmers (Average age: 21.2±3.9 year), and 10 women sedantaries (Average age: 21.6±1.3 year), 10 men sedanteries (Average age: 23.1±1.1year), have participated in this study as volunteers. According to the results, when the proprioception was examined on dominant leg in three different measurement positions, with 30?,45? and 60? degrees, meaningful differences were identified in favour of swimmers in the position of lie back down non weight bearing (NWB) 45? and partial weight bearing (PWB) 60? degrees (p?0,01). Women swimmers and women sedanteries between meaningful differences were identified in favour of swimmers in the position of lie front down non weight bearing (NWB) 30?and lie back down non weight bearing (NWB) 45? degrees (p ? 0,05). Man swimmers and man sedanteries groups between differences were identified in favour of swimmers in the position of lie front down non weight bearing (NWB) 30?, weight bearing (WB) 60? and partial weight bearing (PWB) 60? degrees (p ? 0,01). However, no meaningful differences were found in the position of non weight bearing (NWB) lie back and face down 60? degrees, partial weight bearing (PWB) 30? and 45?, weight bearing (WB), 30?, 45? degrees. Furthermore women and swimmers between no meaningful differences were found in the position of non weight bearing (NWB), partial weight bearing (PWB) and weight bearing (WB) 30?, 45?, 60? degrees (P>0.05).Key Words: Proprioception, Wieght Bearing, Partial Weight Bearing, Non Weight Bearing, Digitalgonyometre, Swimming.
