Factors affecting the spirituality levels of generation

Generation is a term used to describe groups of individuals born between certain dates and affected by the cultural, social, economic and political phenomena experienced during these dates. It is not possible to define a generation only within the framework of birth dates; the common social consciousness acquired in this process also plays an important role in separating generations. This research attempted to analyze the variables affecting the spirituality levels of young people in Generation Z. Today, high school and university education, which corresponds to Generation Z, and the time spent in this process are very important in acquiring social awareness for young people. Our research was conducted as a quantitative research with a descriptive design. A general survey model was used in the research. The surveys were conducted with 515 young people between the ages of 14 and 18 from different economic, social and cultural classes. The attitudes and behaviors of the research participants regarding religion were investigated in the areas of belief-worship-social life, and these were tried to be associated with independent variables such as gender, age, school environments, social media and family. Our sample was determined to ensure socio-cultural and socio-economic diversity. Emphasis was placed on the diversity of school environments, and interviewees were selected from different schools such as Anatolian High School, Private Anatolian High School, Imam Hatip High School and Vocational High Schools. The result of our research shows that students' perceptions of spirituality are generally at a high level. It has been determined that spirituality plays an important role in students' coping with the difficulties in their lives and the majority of them believe in a transcendent being or God in their lives. Additionally, it was found that students showed moderate participation in spiritual practices and had a high sensitivity to searching for the meaning of life. These results show that spirituality has an important place in students' lives and that they participate in various spiritual practices in this regard.
