Abstract (EN)

In this study, it was aimed to examine the levels of test anxiety that significantly affect the academic achievement of individuals by comparing them with Z and Y generations. The population of the study was composed of students from state and private schools in Adana. The second generation of secondary school students (n=170) and the last generation of high school students (n=263) were included in the study. The sample of the study consists of 433 individuals. All individuals in the generation range determined by the randomly selected sampling method were included in the study. A socio-demographic form was formed with 7 questions to determine the socio-demographic characteristics of the participants. Exam anxiety was measured by the Test Anxiety Inventory, which consisted of 50 questions. In order to evaluate the level of anxiety, Spielberger's 20-item State-Trait Anxiety Inventory and 20 questions were used. In all subtests of the Test Anxiety scale, the Z generation was found to be higher than the Y generation; Significant differences were observed between generations in terms of others' and their own opinions, anxiety about the future, mental response and finally general examination anxiety scores (p <0.05). On the state and trait anxiety scales, Z generation, on the contrary of exam anxiety scale, was found to have a lower mean than Y generation. The anxiety level of the test anxiety difference between generations, generally more comfortable than the other generations, the general anxiety of the Z generation is lower, and the higher the test anxiety indicates that this generation has an exam-specific anxiety. Therefore, it is important to develop a test anxiety treatment approach for these generations instead of general anxiety treatment approach. In order to cope with this, individuals who have test anxiety need to be supported by considering the characteristics of generations as well as physical and social conditions, and studies on treatment methods should be developed.
