Investigation of the fineness effect of pumice stone in soil stabilization

Abstract (EN)

In this study, which deals with the fineness effect of chemical stabilization, which is one of the surface stabilization methods, the engineering properties of a low plastic clay soil have been improved with lime and pumice stone. The pumice stone used in the study was added to the soil in raw and thinned form, separately. In this experimental study, where curing times are determined as 7, 28 and 84 days, experiment samples were prepared by adding raw and thinned pumice stone with/without lime to the natural soil at the rate of 0%, 5%, 10%, 15% and 20%. Within the scope of the study, the effect of using thinned pumice stone on the geotechnical properties of the prepared samples was investigated. As a result of the experiments, it has been determined that the thinning of pumice stone has limited effects on consistency limits and compaction parameters. It was concluded that the use of thinned pumice stone as an additive shows more improvements in the strength of lime-free samples and in the strength and durability of lime containing samples compared to the use of raw pumice.
