The investigation of level negative automatic thoughts of mothers who have children with intellectual disability

In this research, the factors was determined negative automatic thoughts which effects about mothers who have the children with intellectual disability.The sample, 90 mothers generates the study groups who have the children with intellectual disability that they have applied to Yüreğir Guidance and Research Center in order to examine for educational diagnose to their intellectual disability children. Automatic Thoughts Questionnare (ATQ) was used as data collected tool.The findings, the mothers' automatic thoughts were no diffrences between childs' mental inadequecy level (mild, moderate and severe) and gender (p>0.05). The sub-scale scores (being self-centered, puzzlement, escape behavior, personel dissonance ve loneliness) and total scores were significantly low the mothers who icreases post traumatic growing to their automatic thoughts (p<0.05). The mothers' automatic thoughts determined in the sub-scale (being self-centered) point when the children who has disability after the first diagnosed as much as time progress (p<0.05).As a result, automatic thoughts level of mothers isn't according to mental insufficiency or defining other charecteristic; but it differs significantly according to mothers who showed positive progression in which the period their children were diagnosed with intellectual disabilities.
