Silver nanoparticle synthesis and antimicrobial applications of zuzubak plant (Allium Turcicum)

Abstract (EN)

In this study, silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) were synthesized using the Zuzubak Plant (Allium Turcicum) via an easy, low-cost, and eco-friendly method. According to the analysis results of Ultraviolet (UV)-visible Spectrophotometry, the nanocrystals exhibited a characteristic peak at 438.3 nm. Analyses by Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FE-SEM), Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), and Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) revealed that the biosynthesized AgNPs possessed spherical morphologies. XRD analysis indicated that the crystal structures of AgNPs were cubic. The size of the nanoparticles was calculated to be 29.34 nm using the Debye-Scherrer equation. The zeta size of the synthesized nanomaterial was measured to be 117.4 nm. The inhibitory effects of AgNPs on food pathogens including Bacillus subtilis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 29213, Escherichia coli ATCC25922, and Candida albicans were determined using the Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) method.
