A study on economics and fiscal literacy of university students

Individuals in society need to have a certain level of economics and fiscal literacy to make the right decisions on economic and financial issues, such as managing their household budgets, making regular savings, protecting their savings against inflation, making financial plans, and owning assets, etc. Having these skills goes through financial education. The financial well-being of individuals with increasing economic and fiscal literacy will increase accordingly. Our country's education in economics and finance generally starts at the university level. In this direction, in this thesis, fundamental economic and fiscal literacy levels of university students were measured, and differences were analyzed according to some demographic characteristics. Two hundred fifty-five students from the Faculties of Economics and Administrative Sciences of universities in Turkey participated in the research. As a result of the analysis, the students' economic and fiscal literacy levels were determined as 38.95%. As a result of the difference analysis, it was seen that the economic and fiscal literacy levels of the students changed according to gender, age, university, class, and the frequency of following the economy-finance news. There was no significant difference in literacy levels according to the overall grade point average.
