İlahi ve dünyevi haritacılık: Ortaçağ Akdeniz'inde haritalarda dini sembolizm temsillerinin karşılaştırmalı bir analizi
This thesis explores the use of religious symbolism in medieval Mediterranean cartography, comparing Islamic, Christian, and Jewish mapping traditions. By focusing on key works such as the Tabula Rogeriana, Catalan Atlas, and Book of Curiosities, it demonstrates how maps reflected both geographic knowledge and religious expression, culminating in sacred spatial representations. The study reveals how cross-cultural exchanges in the Mediterranean shaped symbolic depictions of sacred geography, leading to the development of distinct cartographic traditions. This comparative analysis underscores the role of maps in conveying religious and cultural identity during the Middle Ages, highlighting the interconnectedness of the Mediterranean.
This thesis presents a novel approach to occupant behavior (OB) modeling in office buildings by integrating psycho-social behavioral clusters with environmental parameters through fuzzy logic modeling. Traditional building performance simulations often rely on static and generalized assumptions, which fail to capture the dynamic and complex nature of human behavior in energy use, contributing to the energy performance gap. This research addresses this challenge through a three-step methodology: (1) online study, (2) field study, and (3) fuzzy logic modeling. Each step informs the next, culminating in a holistic framework for more accurate energy performance predictions. In Step 01, three distinct behavioral clusters were developed using the Theory of Planned Behavior, Self-Determination Theory, and habit and comfort constructs, capturing different energy-saving tendencies, motivation, and comfort needs. Step 02 mapped these clusters against environmental parameters—outdoor and indoor temperature, humidity, and CO₂ levels—to create a dynamic, context-responsive model of occupant actions. Finally, Step 03 implemented a fuzzy logic system in MATLAB, designed to integrate with EnergyPlus™ via its Energy Management System (EMS). This integration enables real-time simulation of occupant responses to environmental shifts, incorporating psycho-social influences and seasonal variations, thereby improving the precision and adaptability of energy consumption forecasts.
Türk Ticaret Kanunu hükümleri çerçevesinde anonim ortaklıkta pay sahibinin oy hakkının donması
6102 sayılı Türk Ticaret Kanunu'nun 434. maddesinde düzenlenen oy hakkı, anonim ortaklık pay sahiplerinin ortaklık genel kurulunda görüşülen konular hakkında olumlu, olumsuz veya çekimser yönde beyanda bulunmasına imkân tanıyan ve ortaklık yönetimine katılmasına aracılık eden pay sahipliği hakkıdır. Pay sahibinin oy hakkının kullanımının kanundan kaynaklanan bir sebep dolayısıyla engellenmesi, oy hakkının donması olarak ifade edilir. Anonim ortaklıkta oy hakkının donması olgusuna ihtiyaç duyulmasının temel sebebi, pay sahipleri ile ortaklık arasında ortaya çıkan menfaat çatışmalarının dengelenmesi ve ortaklığın karar ve irade organı niteliğini taşıyan genel kurulda istikrarın sağlanması düşüncesidir. Oy hakkı donan pay sahibi, genel kurulda oy kullanamaz ve anonim ortaklığın yönetimi üzerinde etki doğurma gücüne sahip olan yönetsel nitelikteki pay sahipliği haklarından yararlanamaz. Çalışmamızda oy hakkının donması kavramı; oy hakkının donduğu hâller, oy hakkının donmasının hüküm ve sonuçları ve oy hakkının donması hükümlerine aykırılık hâli kapsamında incelenmiştir.
Türkiye'de dezenformasyonla mücadele politikalarının çevrimiçi haber paylaşma davranışına etkisi
For the past decades, governments and social media companies have attempted to combat the spread of misinformation online by developing new regulations around online technologies. While these attempts have successfully curbed the spread of misinformation in many instances, there have also been cases where such regulations have violated the freedom of expression due to the uncertainty surrounding the definition of misinformation (Cipers et al., 2023). This thesis aims to explore how these strategies to combat misinformation affect the way ordinary citizens engage with news online in an authoritarian-leaning context. In doing so, it investigates the impact of recent counter-misinformation regulation in Turkiye, publicly known as the disinformation or censorship law, on news-sharing behavior. Employing a 2x2 between-subjects online survey experiment among 228 Turkish college student, the study seeks to understand whether exposure to information about the law and the mode of online identity (anonymous vs. real) affects individuals' news-sharing tendencies. Although the salience of the law and the different modes of online identity does not significantly affect news-sharing attitudes as a model, the salience of the law alone has a significant negative relationship with sharing likelihood when all control variables were included in the analysis. Overall, the findings highlight the importance of striking a balance between countering misinformation and protecting freedom of expression online.

This thesis defines self-adaptation and establishes its markers. Self-adaptation, although a known practice across multiple fields, remains understudied and lacks a definition which clearly highlights its structure and the markers necessary for a work to be considered self-adaptation. This study, based on the definition it establishes, breaks down the practice into it disciplines, star, adaptation, film, performance and music video studies and connects them to a larger theoretical frame. Then, it answers pressing questions that prevail in self-adaptation such as the matter of authority, artistic collaboration, how different media forms fit in the practice and how artists actually perform self-adaptation. The thesis than highlights self-adaptations practice from different time periods by performing an extensive case study on David Byrne which not only shows Byrne's decades long career packed with examples of the practice but how it prolongs careers and artistic visions. It further supporting it with smaller studies that examine Nick Cave, Jim Jarmusch, Neil Young and David Bowie. Finally, the thesis concludes with showing how self-adaptation is currently being practiced by contemporary stars as a means of expanding their artistic horizons and for artistic resilience. Ultimately, the thesis aims to define the practice in a way that makes the definition and its markers applicable for further study. Yaşlı dostu mutfak tasarımı için genişletilmiş kullanılabilirlik kriteri olarak Poka-Yoke konseptinin incelenmesi
This study proposes the Poka-Yoke Concept as a usability criterion for the improvement of residential kitchen design for older adults, using aging simulation suit (GERT suit). Thesis includes two separate study datasets. In the first data set, 152 older adults from the Geriatrics Department of Hacettepe Hospital participated to fill out the questionnaire. According to the results, error prevention, low physical effort, adequacy of lighting and workstation were the most important kitchen design criteria. In the second data set, tasks and scenarios were conducted with architects and interior architetcts using the kitchen of Bilkent University Graduate Housing. As a result of the heuristic evaluation adapted in the context of Poka-Yoke Concept, it can be used as a usability criterion by increasing empathy towards older adults with GERT simulation.
Kusursuz bir hayat: Bizans'ta sütun azizleri (5. ila 12. yüzyıllar)
This thesis delves into Byzantine stylites and their ascetic practices within the 'Spatial Turn,' unveiling the interplay of asceticism, religious symbolism, and spatial dynamics in the Byzantine Empire. First, by applying Henri Lefebvre's spatial triad model, this research examines literary spaces through a concentrated analysis of the travel and movement narratives within the hagiographic accounts of three stylites from the fifth to twelfth centuries: Symeon the Elder, Daniel the Stylite, and Lazaros of Mount Galesion. The aim is to illustrate the contribution of literary spatial elements to the formation of the sacred identities of stylites. Subsequently, attention turns to the examination of material remnants, focusing on the spatial arrangements of Qal'at Sim'an and souvenir tokens from the religious site. The goal is to unveil the interconnected relationship between space and stylite. By integrating both literary and material perspectives, this thesis aims to highlight the multifaceted spatial features of Byzantine stylites. Keywords: Asceticism, Space, Spatial Triad, Spatial Turn, Stylites.
Sigara kısıtlamasının derse devam ve yaşam memnuniyeti üzerindeki etkileri: Bir Türk üniversitesi örneği
We investigate the effect of smoking regulations on a university campus regarding attendance frequency, life satisfaction, and campus satisfaction among university students. A private university in Turkey implemented a campus-wide smoke-free policy, which prohibited smoking on campus except in designated areas at least 150 meters from faculty buildings. In our theoretical framework, we analyze a simple game for smoker and nonsmoker students with different types. In order to analyze the testable implications, we conducted an online survey with retrospective questions to third and fourth-year students. 406 students responded to our survey. In the empirical methodology, we model attendance frequency as a function of various factors, including individual fixed effects driven by intrinsic motivation for attendance, faculty fixed effects affected by faculty-related attendance policies, a time effect that may impact attendance trends, and a heterogeneous policy effect based on time and distance to smoking areas. As an alternative approach to the first one, instead of modelling individual fixed effects and adjusting for them through first differencing, we employ a difference-in-differences model. Our findings indicate that attendance increased and the smoking intensity among students decreased after the implementation of the policy for smoker students. Remarkably, the results obtained through the alternative approach align with those of the primary methodology. Also, the findings are consistent with the theoretical framework. İmanlı terakkiperver bir millet: Kore Savaşı ve Türkiye'nin soğuk savaş dönemi yeniden yapılanması
On June 25, 1950, North Korea attacked South Korea and started the Korean War. The United Nations Security Council passed Resolution 82, which urged North Korea to withdraw from South Korea's soil. North Korea's failure to abide by the United Nations' call prompted Security Council Resolution 83, which called on all member states to support South Korea. The newly elected Democrat Party in Turkey elaborated on this issue very carefully. Eventually, Turkey became the second country after the U.S. to positively respond to Security Council Resolution 83 and committed a brigade of 6092. Relying extensively on American, Korean, and Turkish declassified archival materials, this dissertation brings the impact of foreign policy decisions on inner politics to the forefront of Turkey's Korean War experience. It argues that Turkey's decision to intervene in the Korean War and its spillover effects not only changed Turkish diplomacy but also altered Turkey's international perception and its society in a fundamentally different way than the period preceding the Korean War.
