Empirical methodology in order to ascertain whether concept maps are effective in the success of second year high school students to learn subjects on soil for the geography class

This thesis is written through empirical methodology in order to ascertain whether concept maps are effective in the success of second year high school students to learn subjects on Soil for the Geography class.In this thesis, which aims to teach concepts related with the subjects on Soil for the Geography class through using concept maps, two groups are selected that are called test and control. The second year students of Ankara Hasan Ali Yücel Anatolian Teacher High School are the samples of this thesis. The subjects are chosen objectively. Pre-test ? final test, control grouping, patterns are used in the thesis. A test with 35 questions about the Soil is used as data gathering process. The following findings are reached as a result of statistical process used for data analyzing:-The concept maps, which are applied to the test group, are more effective than expression method (classical method) in terms of increasing success of the students.-The expression method (classical method), which are applied to the control group, is less effective in terms of increasing success of the students.Science Code:Keywords: Concept, Concept Learning, Concept Maps, Concept Learning in GeographySupervisor: Ass.
