THE ADM N STRAT VE AND SOC A-ECONOM C S TRAT ON OFANTALYA BETWEEN THE YEARS OF 1866-1867 ACCORD NG TOANTALYA JUD CAL REG STERED NUMBERED 15ABSTRACTThis study, in which the administrative and social-economical situation of Antalya betweenthe years 1866 and 1867 is analysed, is based on the Judical Registers and their contents. Thus, theJudical Registers of Antalya No: XV, covering those years, constitute the main source of thesubjects of this study.Developing as a harbour town since ancient times, Antalya has always been one of the mostdesirable cities. Having been the most important gate of Anatolia to the Mediterranean, itmaintained its usual commercial importance also during the times of Seljuk and Ottoman State. Asan important city during the period of Ottoman State, it was one of the leading Anatolian citiesaffected by the situation of the state at different times. It is clear that Antalya was affected by thechanges in the administrative, social, judicial, municipal and economical areas, occurred especiallyduring the Tanzimat Period. It can be observed that kaim-makams in the administrative structureand Viceroys (naibs) in the judicial system had duties in Antalya during the years covered by theTanzimat Period, which we have analysed, and also some information pertaining to both traditionalinstitutions and the ones established as a result of the reform movements can be found in the KadiRecords.In the economical aspect, the coins used and the prices of several products and goods, and inthe social aspect, the religious and ethnical structure, the way of accommodation, the economicalstructure of the families, the possessions used and the recorded information about the other culturalvalues show that Antalya is of an identity of a typical Ottoman town.
