Abstract (EN)

This study presents the transcription of the İncil-i Şerif (Holy Bible) written in Turkish with Armenian letters in 1858, its index, and linguistic analyses. The introduction provides information on Turkish written with Armenian letters, the role of language in Turkish-Armenian relations, and Turkish Bible translations. It then focuses on the printed characteristics of the work, its content, and its language. The Phonetics section outlines the features of the Armenian alphabet letters used in the text. In the section on phonological phenomena, sound derivation, vowel loss, assimilation, and vowel changes in Turkish words within the text are analyzed. Turkish written with Armenian letters is a form of the Armenian alphabet used to write Ottoman Turkish until the introduction of the Latin-based Modern Turkish alphabet in 1928. The Armenian alphabet was used not only by Ottoman citizens of Armenian descent to write Turkish but also by non-Armenian Ottoman and Turkish intellectuals.
