An examination of the oboe solos in the orchestral works by the 19th century Russian composers and performance suggestions

In this research, the oboe solos in the orchestral works of the Russian Five who lived in the 19th century, were examined. Within the scope of the thesis, historical information about Russian music in the 19th century, the lives and works of the Russian Five are given; the difficulties encountered in the performance of the oboe solos in the selected works are identified, and suggestions are presented for a proper and correct interpretation of the solos. The composers, known as the Russian Five, studied in the research, gained an important place in the literature with the works they produced in the 19th century. The orchestral works and the oboe solos examined are among the most well-known works of Russian classical music. In this thesis, data about the stories and epics that are the subject of the works were collected; information on the history of Middle Eastern and Caucasian cultures is included. By examining the oboe solos in the works, musical phrases and themes are identified and performance suggestions are presented through musical expressions and symbols. This research is qualitative research in which data collection is carried out by document analysis methods. This research aims to examine the oboe solos in the orchestral works of the Russian Five, which left their mark on the 19th century formally, technically and musically; and to present performance suggestions for the interpretation of the works from the data obtained.
