Abstract (EN)
In this study, it is analyzed the economic crises which experienced the structural adjustment in Turkey after 1980s and the liberalization of capital movements in 1989. In this context, the study involves the 1994 crises which is known as the most harmful one after 1980s, the 1997 South East Asian crises, 1998 Russian crises, the 2000-2001 crises and 2008 global economic crises.It is not the same the causes of economic crises and its impact on Turkish economy after crises. In this study, economic crisis are classified as crises originated by internal causes of economy and caused by external shocks.Study aims to explore both similar and different ways of causes of crises and impacts of crises on Turkish economy in the light of literature reviews and statistical indicators. The conceptual framework concerning with the economic crises is explained in the first part of the study. The second part deals with the causes of the economic crises and the process of the economic crises appeared after 1980s. In the third part, the impacts of the economic crises is analyzed comperatively by using selected macroeconomic variables.The study presents that the different effects of the period of the crises besides the similar effects of the period of the crises on macroeconomic variables. In all of the period of the crises the growth of the GDP decreased dramatically, the economy tightened. When looked at the change in unemployment rates, it is realized that the unemployment rates didn?t increase in the crisis of 1994 but the unemployment rate increased in the period of the other crises. There is an inflationary tendency in the period of the crises. As far as indicators of the foreign trade is concerned, it is seen that the imports decreased in all crisis? period but the exports increased in the crises of 1994, 2000-2001 due to economic conditions of the country and the exports decreased in the crises of 1997 Southeast Asia, 1998 Russian and 2008 global crises which were based on external shocks.
