The analysis of the growth process of residential areas located at outskirts of İstanbul after 1980's

Architecture, M. S. ThesisSettlement is one of the basic necessities for people. Societies are influenced by historicalinnovations. Houses and housing areas are changed during economic and socialdevelopments, these also have an effect on social life. Therefore, in the first chapter ofresearch, political, economic and social developments in Turkey, and their effects on housingdevelopments, are examined chronologically in three terms. The first term consists of theperiod before establishment of the republic. The second term is examined between 1923 and1950 and the third term from 1950 to 1980.After 1980?s, economic changes influenced the entire world. The new world economic systemforced Turkey?s economic model to change. Therefore, trading and circulation of capitalincreased in the new economic system. The development of housing fields as examined, in thethird chapter, are a consequence of the reorganization of the economic system after 1980?s.In the fourth chapter, the development of residential areas in Istanbul is examined. Theresidential preferences of high income groups observed are located outside of the city and thereasons for this observation are examined. In addition, the location of the residential areas inIstanbul and the architectural style of the houses are analysed on some samples.In the fifth chapter, two residential areas are determined to support the research. One of theseresidential areas is ?Zekeriyaköy Evleri? which is located in Sariyer; the other residential areais ?Aqua Manors? which is located in Umraniye. As a research method of residential areas aretaken the observation of the areas, the photographical documentation, the arrangement ofinterviews with the estate managers and appraisers.
