Abstract (EN)

Everything that is related to human being is social, cultural and therefore ideological. The fact that daily life inherits an ideological text about the social can not be disregarded. That daily life or the ordinariness of daily life is a subject of art is not a new phenomenon, but one that has not been dwelt upon very seriously. In this respect, art is to be regarded as a tool to decipher the truth masked by ideology. When one has a look at the adventure of cinema in Turkey, it can be seen that the national cinema which gained an rapid impetus from the second half of 1990s onwards has turned towards ordinary lives and ordinary stories rather than grand narratives. It can also be seen that the narratives of this recently emerging cinema are based on the question by what ideology the social actors in the struggle to become an individual are shaped in daily life. Although the current ideology is based on a nationalist and moralist discourse, it is clear that individuals can respond the strategies of authority through daily tactics, but they have a perception and life style that cannot go beyond the boundaries of authority. This study elaborates upon the way women and men in Turkey exist as social actors in the social sphere under the light of the basic concepts that determine the individual and the concept of individual in daily life. In this respect, the extent to which an ideologically established text allows one to be an individual will be explained through an ideological and sociological criticism on the exemplary films. As it can be seen in the exemplary films, the concept of individual is one that cannot have a full correspond in daily life and that is not allowed to be put into practice by social actors apart from being a subject of intellectual discussion. Therefore, the concept of individual is discussed as a nominal one in Turkey. As it can be seen in the films, the main problem of the individual appearing nominal is not to be able to go beyond a struggle for existence in either the country or the city.
