Abstract (EN)
In our era, the diversity and dynamism in environmental graphic design and public installation practice has made the subject central and inspiring. In this context, the new narrative methods made by digitalization and the global effects of cyber culture have intensified the encounters of art, design and society in the public sphere. As a result of the progress of public installation in an interdisciplinary route together with postmodernism and contemporary cultural dynamics, public installation has been included in environmental graphic design. Cities are environments that represent polyphony in the heterotopic sense and have aesthetic potential. Urban design progresses in a wide spectrum from urbanism to public installation. The city offers areas of unlimited freedom for creative strategies. This potential has made cities huge tabula rasa for large-scale creative representations and installation art. Therefore, in this thesis titled " Environmental Graphic Design and Public Installation in the Context of 21st Century Postmodernism", a contemporary evaluation was provided to the phenomenon of public installation by focusing on the relationship and interaction between environmental graphic design, digital representation, postmodern art, typography and text-based art. In this context, the styles and exemplary works of artists and designers who can be defined as neo-avant-garde and produce public installations with an interdisciplinary vision such as Sheila Levrant de Bretteville, Jenny Holzer, Krzysztof Wodiczko, Tony Cokes were examined. Also, in parallel with the conceptual and theoretical development of this thesis, as part of the thesis, the public installation project titled 'Things Inside Me / Gaslighting based on gaslighting phenomenon was developed and realized according to environmental graphic design vision.
