Abstract (EN)

The Rite of Spring is Stravinsky's masterpiece, which has made its mark on the 20th century both musically and choreographically. Break of the tonality and uniformity in music, and reversal, even destruction of the traditional concept containing phenomena such as the technical and artistic gestures, mimics, posture and stage design used in the classical ballet make the choreography of this work an avant-garde. However the events happened during the world premiere of the work caused Stravinsky deviating from his innovative path, adopting a more traditional attitude and being recognized as a neoclassical composer among his contemporaries. The choreography, having been described as a scandal then and as innovative as its music, where the harmonic, contrapuntal and formal materials constituting the backbone of the European music until 20th century were used unconventionally, was destroyed by its creator, ballet dancer and choreograph Vaslav Nijinsky after the eventful premiere in Paris on the 29th of May, 1913. Choreographed by many artists such as Leonide Massine, Maurice Béjart, Pina Bausch, Angelin Preljocaj and Martha Graham, Nijinsky's version has kept its mystery for a long time. In 1980s as a result of the studies by the ballet dancer Millicent Hodson and historian Kenneth Archer, the reconstruction of this choreography, created with the help of the collected sketches drawn by the ballet dancer and choreographer Marie Rambert, Nijinsky's assistant from memory, and by the painter Valentine Hugo-Gross during rehearsals, was premiered in 1987 in Los Angeles by Joffrey Ballet, 74 years after its world premiere. In this dissertation work have been comparatively researched the choreographies of Nijinsky, Béjart, Bausch and Graham.
