A comparative analysis on New Age movement in the 20th century

New Age, forming itself in the 20th century, is a movement of new religious, quasi religious manifesting syncretic and eclectic attributes. This title has been used for a group of movement that was popular in the 1980s with similar orientations and practices. This movement; deprived of any stable and unconditional scripts, religious organizations, hierarchy of clergymen; has been used to define alternative spiritual subcultures dealing with topics such as meditation, channelling, reincarnation, crystals, psychic experience, holistic health, reiki and yoga. Concerning the literature of New Age movement, the terms obtained from the religious, philosophical movements and eastern spiritual traditions aroused in the 19th and 20th centuries have been reinterpreted on a philosophical ego-centered basis. In this terminology, statements like God, Goddess, High Spirituality, Inner Child, Absolute Power shows the potential and energy of human beings. New Age movement especially deals with healing. Human beings have a cosmic power for overcoming physical and psychological issues. The same power has been spreading from various power centers in the universe through energy lines. Human beings will be able to notice this power progressively and hereby, they will be able to use their powers without the need of exterior authority (Religious institution, hierarchy and guide etc.). Astrologically, with the effect of Aquarius on earth, awakening emerging around the world will be a precursor of using these powers effectively and more spiritual and peaceful world. This thesis aims at presenting and explaining the notions obtained from mystical traditions of different world religions, practices and techniques. In accordance with this purpose, we made use of primary sources from figures recognized as authorities by this movement. Key Words: New Age, new religious movements, modern theism, yoga, meditation
