Abstract (EN)

Introduction: The balancing effect of the kidneys in the bloodstream is blocked by glomerular diseases. Glomerular diseases are caused by spontaneous primary diseases or by infections, drugs, genetic and systemic diseases. The gold standard method of revealing etiology is kidney biopsy Methods and Materials: In our study, between 2007 and 2015, 442 patients with renal biopsy who were admitted to the Nephrology and Rheumatology clinics of Çukurova University Faculty of Medicine Internal Medicine Department were enrolled. Age, sex, year interval, indications, pathology results, chronic disease cohort, given treatments and treatment responses were evaluated. Diagnostic groups were compared according to demographic characteristics and treatment response. Results: The mean age of the patients studied was 43,09 ± 15,09. 48.9% of the cases were women and 51.1% were male. The most common biopsy indication is nephrotic syndrome. Renal pathology was the most common primary glomerulonephritis (59.5%) in all age and gender groups. In the pathologic subdiagnosis group, membranous glomerulonephritis and focal segmental glomerulosclerosis were the most common with 14.3%. 338 patients were treated. Initial treatment was most commonly the ACE inhibitor or ARB. 19.1% of the treated patients had complete remission, 24.7% had partial remission, and 4.2% had recurrence. 15,2% needed renal replacement therapy, and 2,8% died from complications related to chronic kidney disease. Discussion: Proteinuria may be a symptom of a pathologic condition that causes chronic kidney disease. The renal biopsy to be performed under ultrasound guidance is the most valuable method in terms of cost and patient comfort. Glomerular diseases have the chance to achieve complete remission with treatment. The development of chronic kidney disease will be prevented in the early period of compliance and follow-up of treatment. Key Words: Kidney biopsy, Glomerular diseases, Nephrotic syndrome
