Abstract (EN)

Corrosion, defined as the degradation or losing their properties of metals and their alloys by chemical or electrochemical ways in various environments such as air, water, and soil, is a universal phenomenon. Due to the losses caused by corrosion, countries have to allocate a certain share in their budgets every year. These losses include the costs of maintenance, repair and replacement of damaged parts as well as the deterioration or loss of materials. These economic and environmental impacts caused by corrosion are evident in bridges where metals are used, in highways, in oil and gas pipelines, in pipelines and tanks in chemical manufacturing plants, in water and wastewater pipelines. Aluminum, which has the most common usage after iron, has a strategic importance particularly in aerospace industry, for that reason, the prevention of aluminum corrosion is of particular importance. In order to prevent this corrosion, the studies carried out in recent years have multiplied. These studies focused on environmentally friendly, inexpensive and easily obtainable anti-corrosion materials. The objective of this study is to evaluate coffee wastes and extracts as organic inhibitors due to being a cheap and environmentally friendly natural resource in order to prevent corrosion of 2024 aluminum alloy. In experimental studies, 2024 aluminum alloy based on hydrogen gas output and electrochemical method; corrosion inhibitor of coffee waste at different temperatures (25°C, 35°C and 45°C), and different inhibitor concentrations ( 100 mg/L, 200 mg/L, 300 mg/L, and 400 mg/L) efficacy was investigated. As a result of the tests, the best inhibitory activity was determined for 100 mg/L and 200 mg/L concentrations. Keywords: Corrosion, aluminium AA2024, coffee waste(spent), inhibitor. 2019, 67 pages.
